When Toughness is a Demand
When heavy traffic or extra demands are common, your epoxy flooring needs a trowel grade application. This is the finest technique available for ultimate endurance, designing a surface with twice the thickness of our usual business or home epoxy process. Floors that support considerable weight, such as from heavy-duty forklifts, ideally should be coated with a trowel grade epoxy. Trowel grade also is recommended where concrete contact with corrosive or caustic chemicals is common.
With heavier epoxies comes added time for curing. Ideally, trowel grade epoxy is layered at temperatures of 70 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Under that, and the epoxy, with its clear coat, takes more time to cure. Ordinary curing time is 8-12 hours for each coating. The full cure, when usual activities can begin again, is after 7 days. Below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, trowel grade coats are best not tried.
Trowel grade epoxies are not for Do-It-Yourselfers! Skill and experience are essential, as well as professional troweling equipment.
